Spend an evening seeing
Jersey Boys at the Palazzo, and
understand what all the hype
is about! Broadway’s smash hit and
Tony Award-winning Musical of the
Year takes you on a journey through
the rise of one America’s most
influential pop sensations: Frankie
Valli and The Four Seasons.
I Love Las Vegas sat down with cast
member Jeff Leibow to gain some
insight on Jersey Boys and his role as
Nick Massi.
How did you find out about the
Jersey Boys audition?
I was in New York auditioning for
another play and heard about it. I
think they were having call backs
for the Chicago production and I
thought that it would be a really
fun production to be in. I gave my
headshot to a friend who passed it
on to the casting director. I didn’t
hear back from him, but my friend
said they were auditioning for the
Vegas production. I literally got in the
car and drove to Vegas after sending
my resume and headshot to the
casting director and luckily they gave
me an appointment.
Were you a fan of the Four
Seasons before?
I am a huge fan of music from that
genre. I’m not sure why as it is not
my genre. But, I always enjoyed it
and had records and tapes.
Tell me about your character Nick?
Nick is the quiet one. He doesn’t
really say much. He goes along with
whatever Tommy says. Every once in
awhile he’ll throw something out.
Typically with Nick, when he says
something it is important and you
want to listen. He is very quiet and
tends to only speak when necessary.
How did you prepare for the role?
I did a lot of research. Unfortunately,
there is not a lot written about Nick.
The only references to Nick tend
to be the stories from how Franki,
Bob and Tommy remember him.
Most of the information I got came
from showing up for rehearsals and
getting the information directly from
the writers. I’ve gotten to speak to
Franki about it and hopefully will get
to speak to Tommy about Nick as he
lives in Las Vegas.
What inspired you to
pursue acting?
Actually I was involved in music.
I played the oboe for 16 years. I
played other instruments before like
the piano and the guitar. I’ve been
playing instruments since I was 7 or
8 years old. Music was what I wanted
to pursue in college, but my father
urged me to pursue something more
realistic, so I ended up in Sciences.
But, I just couldn’t stay out of music.
A friend of mine in college dared
me to audition for this play. I did
and landed the role, and fell in love
with the theater.
