One on One with Gordie Brown

With a quick wit and an ability to leave audiences around the world laughing in the aisles, Gordie Brown has recently celebrated a year of success at The Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino. Beginning his career in Las Vegas at the Golden Nugget’s Ballroom Theatre for two years, Brown has become a well-known Las Vegas celebrity. So how did the Las Vegas headliner go from a former political cartoonist to being voted Nevada’s “Entertainer of the Year?”

“I wanted to perform in the city where my heroes performed; people like Elvis, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Paul Anka,” said Brown. “It’s definitely the entertainment capital of the world.”

Entertaining in Las Vegas isn’t the only thing Brown has done. Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Brown began his career in stand-up after his co-workers at the Ottawa Sunday Herald entered him in a talent contest, which he took first place. In less than two years, Brown wasopening for Paul Anka and Rich Little as well as other stars including Jay Leno, Louie Anderson, Barry Manilow, and Jerry Seinfeld. Now, after an amazing and triumphant year at The Venetian, Brown can enjoy his accomplishments at all his favorite places in Las Vegas.

“For me, it’s all about The Venetian; the restaurants are great and the shops are fabulous,” said
Brown. “Specifically, I enjoy the food and atmosphere at Valentinos. Tao is an excellent lounge and club. I often shop at Lior for clothing and for jewelry I turn to Simayof on property, and off-property I go to DaMincci Jewelers, owned by my friend Mampre Minci.”

Brown is currently working on other projects. Closest to completion is his art book, which is a compilation of celebrity caricatures he has drawn over the years, and another work in progress is the album of his original music. Once completed, both his CD and book can be found at gordiebrown.com, as well as a feedback forum Brown enjoys reading.

Lastly, Brown is excited to have celebrated his one year anniversary among the Venetian’s world class line-up of entertainment in a city he enjoys performing in. “I plan on staying in Las Vegas as long as The Venetian will have me,” said Brown. “I love the city because it doesn’t take a lot of looking to find a whole lot of fun.”
