An Evening with Sting

Spend “An Evening with Sting” at 8 p.m. on June 18 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Sting will be accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra performing his most celebrated songs with symphonic arrangements. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by Maestro Steven Mercurio.
Prior to his solo career, Sting was the principal songwriter, lead singer, and bassist of the rock music band The Police. He has been in the forefront of rock and pop music for almost forty years.
His first performances were with jazz bands such as the Phoenix Jazzmen, the Newcastle Big Band and Last Exit. Bandleader Gordon Solomon’s comments about his black and yellow sweater that made Sting look like a wasp is when he gained his nickname. When a journalist
referred to him as “Gordon”, Sting jokingly replied “My children call me Sting, my mother calls me Sting, who is this Gordon character?”
With sixteen Grammy® Awards for his work, Sting received his first Grammy® for Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 1981. Sting is a member of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He is also one of the select few to be an inductee of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
