100 Miles from Memphis
After two decades in the music business, Sheryl Crow has scored again with her latest album, “100 Miles From Memphis,” which was inspired by returning to her roots. Crow went back to her roots in soul music and revamped some classics along the way. Her bonus track of Jackson 5’s “ I Want You Back” was recorded with one take.
Growing up in Kennett, MO, Sheryl Crow received a Christmas present that changed her life, a copy of the Jackson 5’s “ABC” which was her very first record. With parents in a swing band, Sheryl remembers growing up listening to a lot of rhythm and blues, plus the music that came from Memphis, Al Green, Elvis, and Sun Studios.
From watching the Jackson 5 cartoon on Saturday mornings as a young girl to Crow’s first big break, touring with Michael Jackson as a backup vocalist, she has been a fan all of her life. During his Bad World Tour from 1987-1989, Crow often performed with Jackson on “I Can’t Stop Loving You.”
Through the years, Crow has sung background vocals for Tina Turner, Don Henley, and Michael Jackson, performed with the Rolling Stones, and sung duets with Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Luciano Pavarotti, John Mellencamp, Kid Rock, Michelle Branch, and Sting.
Selling over 35 million albums worldwide, Crow has won nine Grammy Awards in her career. Enjoy her concert as Crow returns to her roots with songs from her newest album, “100 Miles
From Memphis.”
